You may be proud that you found a discount airline ticket to use during leave but you will not be so pleased to find that something has spilled in your luggage during travel. The goals when packing for a brief getaway are to prevent spills and wrinkles. By following the tips below, packed liquids will arrive intact and clothing will be wrinkle-free.
After purchasing a military discount airline ticket and reserving hotel accommodations, packing becomes the next order of business. Lay out everything you plan to bring and then downsize to about half of that. Packing light is the best way to keep clothes from wrinkling. Unless the discounted airline ticket will land you in the Outback, you can purchase any small items left behind.
Whether you are packing a suitcase, seabag, or duffle bag, use spillproof containers. For extra insurance, place these inside a double-sealed plastic bag. That way, if liquids somehow manage to escape their containers, the plastic bag will contain them. When packing liquid containers, position them so they will be upright when carried.
Military uniforms are known to get wrinkled. If you cannot leave the uniform behind, wear it on the plane. You will earn some extra respect and save yourself about a half-hour of ironing. If the uniform must be packed, place it on top of the other clothes and cover it with a plastic bag. When arriving at the hotel room, immediately unpack the luggage.
For checked luggage, use a hard shell suitcase that features wheels. Add a few plastic coat hangers to the suitcase in case the uniform must be hung in the bathroom to steam out wrinkles. The hangers provided by hotels are usually not removable from the clothes rod. Metal hangers can leave rust marks so go with plastic and steam away.
