13 years ago today, America was stunned by an event that rocked our nation. On what started as a normal day ended with disaster. Across the nation, millions of people went to work as usual, just carrying on like normal. Little did they know that in just a couple hours, things were about to change. And then came the news that rocked our world.
At 8:46am, the first plane hit the north tower of the World Trade Center, followed quickly by a second plane striking the south tower at 9:03am. Within two hours, both towers collapsed. At 9:37am, a third plane crashed into the Pentagon. A fourth plane crashed into the ground near Shanksville, Pennsylvania at 10:03am, as the victims tried to subdue the hijackers.
In total, 2,996 people were killed – 246 on the planes, 2,606 in New York, either in the towers or on the ground, and 125 at the Pentagon. Nearly all the victims were civilians, with 55 military personnel killed at the Pentagon.
13 years ago in 2001, America was changed. A lot has happened since then. Operation Iraqi Freedom in Iraq, Operation Enduring Freedom in Afghanistan, and numerous small skirmishes. Many Americans have died in those 13 years since the initial attacks. Civilians, Military, and First Responders. Here at militaryfares.com, we remember. And we salute both those who have fought overseas, and those who constantly man the frontlines right here in the United States. Soldiers, Sailors, Airmen, Marines. Police Officers, Firefighters, Emergency Medical Personnel. We salute you all.
It is our wish that the reader of this blog remember, and salute with us. Remember those that were lost that day. Remember those that have been lost since then. And remember the families who have lost loved ones. America will never forget, and we at militaryfares.com will never forget.
